Apple Maple Cinnamon Crumble Pie

Last year before christmas I was tasked to make dessert for my family's christmas celebrations, hence I set out to find a apple crumble recipe that was easy to make and could "WOW" the chicks too. Haha. Anyway, the crumble in this is not like the type you might eat at cafes. This is a oats version but it tastes just as good and maybe slightly more healthy than just the buttered flour in those commercially available types. I will be trying out another apple crumble recipe soon though.

Apple Maple Cinnamon Crumble Pie

Ingredients

For filling

  • 5 apples - peeled, cored and sliced ( I used Granny Smith Apples)
  • 2/3 cup maple syrup (you could use 1 cup instead to make it a little sweeter)
  • 2 tablespoon all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

For crumble

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup rolled oats

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Mix apples with flour and cinnamon. Place the apples in an 8x8 inch baking dish. Pour the maple syrup over the apples.
  3. In a bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar. Stir in the flour, salt, cinnamon and oats. Spread the oat mixture over the apples.
  4. Bake in preheated oven 35 minutes, until golden and bubbly and apples are tender.
Best served hot with a scoop of ice cream! Some people also add a bit of nutmeg, as well as raisins for more flavour. It's totally up to you though, experiment all you want! =)
